Don't You Think It's Time?

I started this blog because I think that bloggers of color are at an inflection point in the development of the blogosphere, afrosphere, blogtopia, or whatever word you use to describe this thing that we're all doing.

I have visited several sites where people have suggested various ways bloggers of color can come together to take things to the next level.

I think we're ready for our own conference similar to SXSW, Yearly Kos, or BlogHer. I started this blog to be an incubator to gather those who are interested in serving on an advisory committee to plan the first international interactive conference for bloggers of color. I am aiming for Summer of 2008. It will be an election year so I think that is a perfect time for gathering.

What do you think?

Hey Gem..I found you through Pageflakes because you typed afrosphere and Google picked up on that. I love that thing. I'm glad to be your very first poster.

I think that this is a great idea and it would be fantastic if bloggers who are not there can somehow participate or see things online because I'm sure we'd all love to be there.

Oh wow. I hadn't even publicized this site. It is a prototype site. Its just a gleam in my eye. I was just playing with the templates to see what I could do.

Google picked it up I am so amazed! Things on Blogger and Wordpress seem to get picked up really fast. My blog is barely ever picked up.Maybe I need to add tags or something. The title just caught my eye and I decided to visit, by chance, out of all the other things I could have read today!

I saw you sent me an e-mail earlier; you didn't leave the URL of your site, so I just Googled the e-mail message and found my way here. I also tried e-mailing back, but your e-mail inbox bounced it back. In any regard, I'm looking forward to contributing and seeing what comes out of this effort.

Hi,

Ever since I saw a tagcloud, I thought it would be interesting to create one for the whole black blogosphere. I've been underemployed for a while (my job was sent to india) so I starting building a page to do that. you can see the prototype at http://news.afronary.com/tagcloud.php

Well one thing led to the next and I ended up working on something to for user driven content (sort of like digg) specifically for african americans. You can find that at http://news.afronary.com/newstart.php

I think this stuff might help with organizing the black blogosphere as well as provide a new way of looking at the African American parts of the internet

Wow I guess since I am not moderating the comments, my blogger dashboard isn't picking up that people are commenting. I thought nobody noticed this site.

I am going to have to pick another e-mail address.

I've been mumbling about a POC blogger conference for awhile now. Good to know I'm not alone in the idea.

EVERYBODY HAS BEEN MUMBLING! That is the problem. We grumble, and then we move on to something new until something else comes up and then we forget.

I picked you up through a link to my blog. I think that it would be a great idea for bloggers of color to meetup. There really needs to be more of us in the blogsphere.

is this for just political bloggers, or is it for Black Bloggers, no matter the subject?

I think the conference is an interesting idea. I would love to go.

What would be the point of the conference? Would it be speakers, interactive panels? Just wondering about the structure.

I am thinking it would be all Bloggers of color and the breakout sessions would deal with the subsets politics, gossip, social networking. While the large sessions would deal with issue that affect all bloggers, making money, not getting sued, technology. That's the point of the advisory committee to help narrow it all out.
