Atlanta it is!

Okay so nobody threw out any other cities and folks seemed to be cool even enthusiastic with Atlanta. I was supposed to be working on BWB for the past two weeks, but I got distracted by another little project I have been working on on my other blog that kind of got out of control.

So, this week I will take care of all the "paperwork" associated with getting BWB going.

So as soon as we have a location, we'll be ready to roll. If you are from Atlanta and have suggestions for good places to locate a conference so that people can go out and kick it in the evenings without having to have a car, send it in.

Continue to comment on what you want to do and learn at the conference because the content is going to be blogger driven. Folks you can still serve on the Advisory Committee ( Well technically I guess everyone who comments is on the advisory committee)which will drive the content.

Also, think about creative ways to deal with anonymous bloggers. Folks who want to come, but either don't want to reveal which blog they run or will reveal the blog, but don't want to reveal their names. I don't want someone to think they have to sacrifice their anonymity in order to take part in the conference.

Hi! I'm a new blogger with an atypical blog on a variety of topics including liberal religion, and I wonder about the parameters of this conference. Looking forward to coming, too, and will help anyway I can. sgpssb

I actually used to work with the major convention center here in Atlanta, the Georgia World Congress Center, so I know the ins and outs of that place, who to speak to, and how to get things done. They have a lot of space, and depending on how big the conference expands to, they can accommodate anywhere from 10 to 10,000 people. I'm not sure what their rates are, but I do know they raise each year. I'll get in touch with my contacts there and see what blocks of time are available and what their rates are looking like.

However, I'm thinking a hotel might be better for something like this because a) if folks come out of town, they don't have to worry about getting lost in the city and b) Atlanta's not really a city you can go out and kick it at night without a car! At least if it's at a hotel, it'd be relatively close to public transportation and/or taxicabs. Hotels either downtown or in Midtown would be good for this. Again, I can work on finding out rates and availability, but I know the rates do vary based on the number of people attending. What do you think a good estimate would be offhand? I have no idea about that. :)

What I think will be good for keeping track of all these ideas would be to use a wiki; there are several free wiki options and they can be easily updated and linked to online. PBWiki (http://pbwiki.com/) is a really good one - it's free, and I've seen its applicable uses through PodCamp Atlanta (I mentioned it a few posts ago). I can get that set up and start putting information from this site on there in applicable categories.

Let's see...what else...oh, anonymous bloggers! I don't go by my real name online either, but I don't mind sharing my blog address. For folks who plan on attending, their badges should have whatever name they choose to provide. One conference I went to I wanted my name to read "Karsh", and they put my real name on there because they got it from my credit card I used to register!

OK - I threw something together right quick on PBWiki. It's by no means a final version of anything, but it's all information I've gleaned from the site and from comments.

Have it the same time as the black arts festival.

That's a pretty good idea anonymous; for those who don't know, the National Black Arts Festival takes place in Atlanta, usually the third week of July, and includes plays, movies and lots of other cultural performances and events.

Here's the website for it: http://www.nbaf.org/

I put in an e-mail to them. I will have our event planner look into it. I just hope we can get hotel space at the same time. That would be the bomb actually because we wouldn't have to worry about folks being entertained in the evenings. We could just focus on blogging.

Atlanta people which weekend of the Arts festival should we aim for? the first or the second? If we aim for the first, people can just stay on in Atlanta for the rest of the week after our conference is over.

so is atl def it? If not i'd love to throw Detroit into the Ring, cities 85% Black with a nice sized Hispanic population. I'm down no matter where it is though.

I suggest the Georgia Global Learning and Conference Center. It's in Midtown, within walking distance of some cool bars and restaurants on Peachtree. It's near two MARTA stops. They have wifi and a range of room sizes. Plus the Georgia Tech hotel is adjacent to it. Dunno how pricey it is though.
